What are steel shot and steel grit?

Steel shot is round hardened steel used for shot peening and cleaning, steel grit is the angular variant for castings, profiles and steel structures. In a blasting installation with recovery both are reused hundreds of times.

The constant properties of steel shot guarantee identical results and minimal wear. That is why they are often used with shot peening. Steel grit is very effective for blasting castings, metal profiles and structures.

Phibo supplies steel shot and steel grit from its own warehouse, in 17 grain sizes. Packaging: 25 kg per bag, 1000 kg per pallet.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between steel shot and steel grit?

Steel shot is round and peens the surface, for shot peening and cleaning. Steel grit is angular and gives a rough profile, for castings, profiles and steel structures.

Can I use steel grit on stainless steel?

No. Steel shot and grit contain iron. For stainless steel choose an iron-free medium such as glass beads, ceramic beads or white aluminium oxide.
